  • scene: A downtown, trendy mix of business men, thirty-something women, and "hip" parents; I can foresee some bridge and tunnel on the weekends, but all around great vibe
  • sip: Decent cocktail list, but we prefer our meat with a dirty martini or glass of red
  • savor: Deviled Eggs, Spaghetti Aglio e Oilo, Bowery Steak, Cheeseburger
  • sit: Try to snag a cushy booth along the side of the room, or banquettes in back as they are defintely sexier than the tables in the middle of the hustle and bustle
  • stilettos: While you may be able to get away with flats during the week, you'll feel much better around the PR pretties if you break out a sexy boot

When I heard the name Bowery Meat Company, I pictured a building similar to what used to exist in the Meatpacking District (before the short skirts & Loubs), and not a trendy, modern restaurant in a newer development on Bowery. Once I heard Josh Capon was the chef behind the project, I further realized that for the reigning King […]

Walking into Cherche Midi I literally had a case of deja vu and thought that I saw the bar at Pastis.  The recently shuttered Pastis had such a beautiful, authentic French bar, and I never expected to be hit with the same love when walking into Cherche.  I miss Pastis almost daily, for its consistently […]

Villard Michel Richard

  • scene: A setting fit for Marie Antoinette, and one of the most ornate opulent places to be seen in NYC
  • sip: Anything you like at the regal bar; the wine list is sort of huge and the sommelier a little snotty, but there are some gems to be found
  • savor: Crab cakes; cheese puff gougeres; lobster burger
  • sit: Date night here might be tricky- the decoration says " special occasion" but the rest of the vibe is not that formal, so make sure that your dining partner is a)informed and b) not waiting for the ring; business associates; parents from out of town
  • stilettos: This place has couture looks but RTW prices, so keep it midtown classy; can be an excuse to dress for dinner, as if you needed one

I first heard of Villard Michele Richard on Eater, and I was immediately drawn in by the description of the interior: Opulent golds, over the top marbles, holograms…I was in!  I love anything over the top and indulgent, the more impractical, the more whimsical, the more ridiculous the better- especially when it has a bit of […]

If a wine glass sits empty for ages, and a server never notices, is it really empty? Who doesn’t love a mystery? There is nothing like a real whodunnit that keeps you gripped until the last second. However in the tale of “Who at Burger and Barrel is Waiting on Me?”, there was no resolution, […]

FriesGo-ToTribeca

Jay McInerney is my favorite author, and Bright Lights Big City of course made a massive impression on me.  The Odeon figures heavily in the book, as a late-night refuge in a still gritty Tribeca, where people met up and did lots of glamorous cocaine in the bathrooms.  The artwork on the copy of the […]
