scene: dark wood and random artwork and signage; long lines waiting to order/sit, made up of everything from angsty NYU students, women in Lulu lemons and families
sip: Coffee; also wine and beer
savor: Nachos; the country salad; tuna melt; any egg dish that comes with the hasbrowns
sit: By yourself! with the guy that slept over the night before, a girl-friend, anyone
scene: Hmmm...large open dining room and smaller rooms off the main entrance; lightly colored walls showcase sepia tinged family photos
sip: full bar available; bartenders are happy to put on NY sports and remember when you like a team...
savor: pan-fried pork dumplings; peking duck; hot and sour soup; spare ribs; shredded garlic chicken; Grand Marnier Shrimp; softshell crabs when in season
sit: with your family; with your friend who doesn't buy into "fancy" Chinese food; anyone who wants Chinese on a Sunday night
sit: This is a place for locals really; it is not remarkable enough to bring out of towners, its better suited as a go-to when you can't decide where else to go and are not in the mood for any specific type of cuisine
spend: $$
address: 145 W Broadway (between Duane St & Thomas St)
scene: Casually elegant dining room that can be a little noisy; brighter sushi bar area that fills up
sip: only sake beer and wine are available; I like 3 out of 2
savor: for real, everything is amazing; the bluefin tuna tartar appetizer is a Pants favorite; in the summer months, the Copper River Salmon is not to be missed, I think we have single handedly lead to their extinction
sit: this is not for the California roll and sake bombing crowd, take them to Mizu; although we treat 15 East as our weekly sushi destination, it is actually rather elegant and pricey, so company should be the same
spend: $
address: 15 East 15th Street (Between Union Square and 5th)
scene: And be scene!! It's Birkins and Babies and facelifts, oh my!
sip: There is a full service bar; I usually opt for a sancerre or bloody mary, because I am dainty; men can feel free to have a beer
savor: Chicken soup; Emilia Romana pizza; Mark's Madison avenue salad; Penne arriabiatta; chicken paillard
sit: With the ladies, with your sugar daddy, with your family; best seats are in the front room, back room is sort of like siberia, but unless you are UES royalty, you can't always avoid it
scene: Small restaurant that doesn’t feel that way because of the large windows in the front; dimly lit candles create a cozy vibe, and noise level is not too bad
sip: creative cocktails; wine list has some unfamiliar options, but staff is helpful
sit: Great spot for a date or to catch up with someone you haven’t seen in a while. Try for a table by the windows so you can watch the West Villagers go by.
