A Rose’ by Any Other Name…

Whispering Angel rose’ has been a game changer over the last few years, a rose’ whose meteroric rise in popularity is due to its fine French wine-making pedigree coupled with a catchy, English friendly name and easily recognized bottle.  I personally and humbly feel responsible for some of the explosion of Whispering Angel, as I was an early champion of this palette pleasing pink pop of the South of France in a bottle; I also chose it  as also the unofficial sponsor of Daryl’s bachelorette, see photo below. Kidding aside, it was love at first sight with Whispering Angel, and are not surprised how it has taken off; we almost forgot about that old Domaines Ott, which is now strictly for spraying…

What many people don’t realize is that there is a serious French winery, Chateau d’Esclans,  producing Whispering Angel, as well as many other rose products across the price and taste spectrum.  Daryl and I were lucky enough to attend “A Rose Evening” at Soho Beach House during Miami Wine an Food Festival,  sponsored by Chateau d’Eslcans and Island Creek Oysters.  As sexy beats played and beautiful people mingled, there was not an empty glass to be had, as US importer Paul Chevalier and his crew made sure everyone was in the pink.

Besides from Whispering Angel, we were treated to a taste of Les Clans, which was a wild departure from typical roses’ in both appearance and flavor.  A more premium wine than Whispering Angel, Les Clans has an intense, deeper flavor and a tinge of orange; if Whispering Angel is your best friend that you go out  and dance with all of the time, Les Clans is more like that old college friend that will involve you in serious conversations. Chateau d’Esclans has several other rose types available on the higher end, including the most-impressivce Garrus,  and we look forward to trying them all…

Think pink!  Check out www.esclans.com for some more information, that’s what the angels are whispering…
