We can’t pretend to help with all Daddy issues, but when it comes to Father’s Day, we can take the stress out of deciding where to eat. Whether the plan is a big brunch or an intimate dinner, below are some choices that are sure to make your Father happy, no matter how badly you did in college.

Show your dad he is in the “prime” of his life
Sundae Funday for Father’s Day

Four Charles Prime Rib – This hot new West Village restaurant is a meat lover’s dream, paired with a dark and sexy atmosphere. It is your duty as a good child to make sure someone at your table orders the famous American Burger, “Au Cheval” style. Book well in advance, or be flexible with timing.

21 Club – The famous dining room at this midtown institution has hosted every power player of the last ninety years, and the decor is a perfect mix of masculine and whimsical. Show Dad you are a real adult by taking him for a luxurious meal that will be hard to forget. (Note jackets are required for men, and no shorts allowed.)

Dad will have a “ball” at Amata

Amata – For a proper Sunday supper, Amata is your spot. Generous portions of old-school Italian classics (chicken parm anyone?) in a polished casual atmosphere will really allow for the family to feel at home.

No “bones” about it, Hometown is delicious

Hometown BBQ – For a delicious outer-borough adventure, take the New York City Water Taxi to Red Hook and walk over to Hometown Bar-B-Que. Hometown is highly acclaimed as New York City’s best barbecue, which also means that there’s often a (LONG)  line. Lead Dad to one of  the two bars  while you head to the counter for some of the best pit-smoked meats you’ve ever had, including the massive beef rib, the moist Texas-style brisket, and pulled pork tacos.

This chicken from Barbuto will make up for all of your teenage sins..
Show Dad he is no small potatoes at Barbuto

Barbuto– If brunch is more your Father’s Day style, then Barbuto can’t be beat. In warm weather, the garage doors are open and the whole Meatpacking scene is on display, but nothing can distract from Jonathan Waxman’s stellar cuisine. The JW chicken and bucatini alla carbonara are particular standout dishes.

Cookshop – Brunch at Cookshop is a perfect respite during a day of perusing galleries in Chelsea or strolling on the High Line. The farm to table menu offers a mix of veggie -heavy and heartier fare, ensuring that there is something for everyone, and if you’re lucky, you can snag a table outside.

Katz’s– Katz’s is a no-nonsense, straightforward New York City Deli at its finest. The scene is a little chaotic and service can be a bit gruff, but it is all part of Katz’s charm.  The pastrami is legendary, everything is served in giant portions, and Dad will surely appreciate your nod towards nostalgia.
