Party Pants: UrbanDaddy and Sonos Supper Club Event

Father’s Day is coming up, and what better way to get in the mood than a party with everyone’s daddy, UrbanDaddy (his name is …..). In partnership with Sonos (slick wi-fi hi-fi speakers), the Daddy took over the ground floor of the Museum of the Moving Image in LIC for a unique supper club concept. (Before I move on too much, everyone should go to that museum, it was very cool). All of the guests were seated at a beautifully set long table, all facing the same way, ( last supper style), a wall with a projector, and lots of Sonos speakers. The concept was this: Every course that was served was introduced by a movie clip involving food, and the bites that followed tied into the food in the clip. During each course music played over additional scenes from that movie, so it was truly a feast for all of the senses. The service was efficient- all of the plates were dropped at the same time, no easy feat considering how closely we were seated. The catering was by Elegant Affairs, ( I had to ask 4 servers before I found one who knew- caterers, educate your staff!) who did a great job creating a menu that brought this abstract concept to life.

This event was over the top decadent; the sheer number of courses was amazing. My only complaints are as follows: The order of the courses was a little weird, and the alcohol choices were too involved for someone who really wants to get down with the booze; I could not for the life of my stomach a milk-shake with kahlua on a good day, and certainly not after a Jack and Coke and a dirty martini. Just saying…There was clearly a lot of thought that went into this evening, and it was fun for everyone to bond over shared pop-culture references and creative food. It was the “daddy” of all dinners….

See below for the films and the food they introduced…

Talledega Nights -fried chicken, pear and gorgonzola pizza and crab tacos; jack and coke

Shake and Bake

Forrest Gump- Shrimp, 5 different ways; Chardonnay

Bubba would be proud

Goodfellas – Meat and Cheese, linguine with clam sauce; Dirty Martini (my favorite course, clearly)

A plate of pure happiness

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs -kobe burger, strip steak sandwich, fries; Kaluha and milkshake
Forgetting Sarah Marshall- Pork two ways; Pina colada
Kill Bill -dumplings, sushi; Sake (this course was the one that stuck out the most as being out of place; the sushi boats were still on the table when the dessert was dropped).
