Why Our Pants Are Unbuttoned
-
3 buttons bursting open
The highest Pants praise: The food is so good that you will want to eat everything and stuff yourself to the point that the buttons on your pants are begging to be undone. You will be full and happy after this meal, heading home to stretchy- pantsed bliss.
-
2 buttons open
A solid place that you will enjoy enough to eat more than one is able to and still be comfortable in skinny jeans
-
button undone
The food is good enough, but you will be able to go dancing after and won’t be tempted to over-indulge on an aggressive level
-
keep em zipped!
Nothing good enough to tantalize the taste buds or tempt your tummy; not worth busting any buttons for this food

- scene: Large front rooms with high tables for food or just drinks as you wait; dinging room is a little grim, but the usually packed house makes up for the lack of decor
- sip: Wine wine wine from a glass, carafe or bottle
- savor: Pizza
- sit: With a girl friend to for a casual, wine fueled catch up; with another couple for a week night double date; with friends with kids or out of town relatives
- stilettos: This ode to all things Italian doesn't necessitate Zanotti's or Fendi's; be prepared to stand and wait, so whatever you wear south of your knees make sure they are comfy

casual, good in the hood, Ital
Otto is pretty much always insanely busy, which can be accredited to a few things: the Batali name, the NYU-ish location, and the reasonably friendly prices. Notice that the popularity is not attributed the usual trifecta of food, service and decor. I am lucky enough to have Otto in my neighborhood, and I usually end [...]

- scene: Cozy and airy at the same time, with dark wood floors, light walls, bright art and large scale flowers
- sip: Speciality cocktails are offered, and they are more than happy to let you try any wine by the glass before you commit
- savor: Bacon and cheddar biscuits; Pulled Pork sandwich
- sit: With anyone really, but it needs to be people that are open to waiting for a table; good for co-workers, a date (if the date is a foodie), or even parents for an early bite
- stilettos: The front room is pretty casual, but ends up getting a nice looking crowd; I say black Loubie pumps before over the knee Prada boots

cozy, good in the hood, Hyped Chef, no reservations
I was once told in a food writing class that there is nothing more boring than someone going to a good restaurant and saying it is good. Duh. However, I was truly moved to write this glowing review of this highly celebrated place by two factors: the truly exceptional service that I encountered, and the [...]

- scene: Hong Kong in the Financial District; a rich, warm bar gives way to a hallway with glass enclosed wine cellars and private rooms on each side, which leads to the main dining room; best seats are the deuces against the wall of the glass enclosed kitchen, the action there is worth watching
- sip: Sparkling Sake for dessert; champers, wine
- savor: Lobster, Escolar, ANYTHING
- sit: With anyone who appreciates a fine dining experience; for a special occasion; JUST GO
- stilettos: Yes! This is the type of place that makes you feel like you are on vacation...the location in the heart of Wall Street is not the most fashionable, but you want to make a night out of a place like this...

SHO Shaun Hergatt is a true revelation. I was blown away. The atmosphere, attentive service, and first and foremost the food all make SHO a viable contender to be listed amongst the best in the city. This place can play with the Big Dogs for sure. The whole evening is a transporting experience, due in [...]

- scene: Feeling Irie...the front room looks like a counter service Jamaican joint in the outer-boroughs, but in a sexy cool way; there is a smaller back room with record covers on the wall, and there is also limited seating out front
- sip: Sangria; Red Stripe
- savor: Jerk Jerk Jerk
- sit: With a fun group; good date place but not first date
- stilettos: The casual surroundings belie a very hip underbelly, so even if you are casual, look cute; the servers are going to be the most attractive people in the place at any given time, so don't try too hard...

For some reason, the pants were tre’ intimidated by Miss Lily’s. All of the hype made it sound like an exclusive Cool People’s Club literally in Anna Wintour’s backyard. We finally grabbed our balls and called for a reservation, called an actual number listed places, not a secret number procured by sending in a headshot [...]

- scene: Spaniards to the left of me, Germans to right, stuck in the middle with you; Dressed up visitors and UES residents alike sharing bottles of wine make this place feel very adult; tons of servers running around and managers creeping keep it sophistcated but not stuffy; there are several rooms but no Siberia that we noticed
- sip: The Anniversary Cocktail, which is a belini with raspberry and lychee
- savor: The menu changes seasonally, but the egg, the truffle pizza, and both cheeseburgers are staples that will never lead you astray
- sit: Anyone who appreciates the Shmance; with out of town visitors or family; seems like a great place to eat prior to carrying on an illicit affair in a room upstairs, but UES cheaters might need to beware
- stilettos: Yes! Feel free to invite Van Cleef, Hermes, Fendi, all the girls to the party
